Leading change and transformation projects

Purpose of the learning module: Increase the success rate of your change projects

Research shows that almost 70% of large organisational change projects (especially IT projects) fail to deliver their full promise, get halted, delayed, or seriously fall short of their key deadlines or budget targets. This module aims to equip project or task force leaders with the hands-on skills and experience required to anticipate and prepare for the essential challenges that their real life project is going to confront them with.

The central part of the module is based on an inspiring and very realistic computer based simulation of a change project that participants will conduct in small teams of 4, and transfer the learning derived from the simulation into their own project. This simulation was developed by the Centre for Advanced Learning Technologies (CALT) at INSEAD. The simulation is rich on content, fun, very interactive and based on comprehensive research at Insead on core competencies of change agents.

Target group: Project teams and task force leaders, staff and support functions
The learning module is designed for project teams or task force leaders with or without previous experience of leading real change projects, but it can also benefit any leader in a functional staff or support position (HR and OD, Quality, IT, Marketing,..) who as a part of their role needs to design, conduct or support real change initiatives and projects.

Format: 1½ days ‘turbocharged’ experiential learning for small teams of 4
Since time is the most constrained resource in today's organisations, we have created a highly compressed learning module. This is a profound and sharp learning experience that quickly changes the way participants plan and deliver new projects. It deals with team working and project management with other stakeholders.

Pedagogic model: Multiple learning vehicles and computer-based simulation
In order to accommodate different learning styles, the programme combines pre-workshop readings, mini lectures, computer based simulations working in teams of 4, feedback from group and from experienced facilitators, personal reflection time and individual action planning in collaboration with peers based on their own project.

You will see the schedule for the basic module below. This module can be reorganised and tailored to fit the specific needs of a given group of participants, and it can be customised as an in-company programme.

Language:
The workshop is offered in English, but support from bilingual facilitators able to help participants with language difficulties can be organised.

Block schedule:
The basic workshop outline is as follows:

Readings about change management and transformation (e.g. Real change leaders)

  • Self-paced stakeholder analysis for own project (web based).
  • Fill in own stress inventory instrument
  • Preliminary reading about EIS (Executive Information Systems)

All participants are invited to share a web based collaborative learning space with café, library and project repository that we will maintain for 6 months and where the programme facilitators will offer "light" monitoring of traffic and access to additional advise.
